Club for Growth Launches New Healthcare Ad in Iowa, Maine, and Wyoming

Washington – The Club for Growth will launch a new television ad tomorrow aimed at opposing Democratic big government healthcare proposals that are being considered by three Republicans in the U.S. Senate – Chuck Grassley (IA), Olympia Snowe (ME), and Mike Enzi (WY). Together, they are negotiating a healthcare overhaul with Democratic leaders in the Senate Finance Committee, the only congressional panel of jurisdiction yet to pass healthcare legislation.

“Senators Grassley, Snowe, and Enzi are negotiating behind closed doors with liberal Democrats over the future of government-run healthcare,” said Club President Chris Chocola. “There’s no harm in talking, but it’s important for their constituents to know what’s being discussed, from raising taxes to involving the government in some of the most important and personal decisions in our lives. And we believe it is vital that these three Republican Senators do not cave-in to the far left, as three Republican Senators did to provide the winning margin for President Obama’s failed “stimulus” spending bill.”

The new ad (shown below) will air in Iowa, Maine, and Wyoming and describes the priorities of Democratic leaders in the healthcare debate, including government-run insurance that would crowd-out existing plans, increase costs, and stick taxpayers with a bill they can’t afford.

This will be the third ad in the Club’s nationwide $1.2 million campaign to highlight the dangers of government-run healthcare. The first ad, running in Colorado, Arkansas, and North Dakota, describes the failure of Britain’s socialized health system to cover life-saving medical treatments. The second ad, described by political strategist Frank Luntz as “One of the most effective ads so far in healthcare,” is running in Nevada and focuses on out of control government spending.

“Democrats will do their best to slap a bipartisan label onto government-run healthcare by removing a few objectionable provisions,” added Chocola. “But that doesn’t make their plan any less intrusive or ineffective, and it’s up to Senators Grassley, Snowe, and Enzi to stand up for their constituents and hold the line against government-run healthcare.”
